Puente de los Santos
This bridge links Asturias and Galicia
This bridge links Asturias and Galicia.
Puente de los Santos spans 612 metres over Ribadeo estuary. It was built in 1987 as a road connecting the two autonomous communities.
Its construction gave momentum to economic, business, and tourist activity in the area.
After it was reformed in 2008 to incorporate the Autovía del Cantábrico A-8 motorway, the bridge has four traffic lanes and two pavements where pedestrians can enjoy a great view of the estuary.
The addition of the motorway made Ribadeo a transit and stopping place for travellers going between Asturias and Galicia along the coast.
Puente de los Santos is so named because of its proximity to two chapels in the town of Ribadeo: San Román chapel in Figueiras and San Miguel in Ribadeo, located on opposite ends of the estuary.
